Country Pursuits - Clay Pigeon Shooting
Description
Country Pursuits offers clay shoots for groups of four or more in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Based at the Nottingham Road Rifle Range, we also hold shoots at other suitable venues. Company owner Craig Lawson is an accredited range officer and no experience is necessary as Craig is an able instructor and soon has novices making their mark on the fast-flying clays! The price per person (please contact us for a quotation), includes instruction, the use of shotguns, clays plus a trap machine with a ‘ghillie’. Clay shooting is an Olympic sport that is great fun for all ages and levels of experience. Clay targets are thrown from a ‘trap’, a spring-loaded metal throwing arm that can throw targets for up to 135 metres. Clay shoots started in the late 1800s to allow people to enjoy the shooting of airborne targets as an alternative to costly shooting weekends held by the ‘landed gentry’. In 1866, ‘glass ball’ shoots began in England, with glass balls stuffed with feathers, brass balls, small metal propellers and other weird and wonderful targets being flung into the air. Today’s clay targets were developed in 1880 in the USA by George Ligowsky, who watched boys skimming clam shells across the water, inspiring him to create saucer-shaped targets of baked clay. Experience the challenge and fun of a clay shoot with Country Pursuits…Ideal for team-building, wedding groups and birthday parties.
