What to expect
Embark on a tranquil catamaran journey through the historic Beagle Channel, infamous for its numerous shipwrecks in the icy waters south of the Strait of Magellan. One of your goals will be to capture that quintessential snapshot with the lighthouse in the backdrop.
Your voyage begins at the local tourist dock, where you'll traverse the expansive Bay of Ushuaia. From this vantage point, you can appreciate a different view of Ushuaia city's profile and its geographical layout nestled at the foot of the Andes Mountains, until you reach the Beagle Channel via Paso Chico. Here, you'll navigate around Bird Island, home to an abundance of Fuegian birdlife including Skuas, Steamer Ducks, Cauquenes, Cook Gulls and Grey Gulls. You'll also visit the Isla de los Lobos, where you can spot South American sea lions. Both these islands are part of the Bridges Archipelago.
Upon reaching the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse (The Illuminators), you'll get to see colonies of Imperial Cormorants and Rock Cormorants, and learn about the tragic sinking of the SS Monte Cervantes in 1930. As your journey concludes, prepare to be awestruck by the panoramic view of the mountain range encircling Ushuaia city and its surrounding lavish nature.
